How to Go Back on the YouTube App on iPhone

Navigating YouTube on an iPhone is usually smooth, but sometimes users get confused about how to go back to a previous page or video. Unlike a web browser or android smartphone that has a back button, the YouTube app uses gestures and on-screen buttons. Here’s how you can easily go back while using YouTube on your iPhone.
1. Swipe from the Left Edge
The easiest way to go back on YouTube is by swiping from the left edge of the screen toward the right. This gesture works when you are browsing videos, searching, or inside a channel page. It functions just like a back button, taking you to the previous screen. But this process dose not work every time. It works only on YouTube shorts.

2. Use the Top-Left Back Arrow
When watching a normal video (Excluding Shorts) or browsing content, you’ll often see a back arrow (◀) in the top-left corner of the screen. Tapping this arrow will take you back to the previous page, whether it’s a search result, a video list, or a channel page.

3. Swipe Down to Minimize a Video
If you’re watching a video and want to go back to browsing, simply swipe down on the video. This will minimize the video into a small player at the bottom of the screen, allowing you to navigate back to previous pages while keeping the video playing.
4. Use the Home Button in the YouTube App
If you’re deep into different menus and want to go back to the main YouTube homepage, tap the Home icon (🏠) at the bottom-left of the screen. This will take you back to your home feed instantly.
5. Close and Reopen the App
If you ever feel stuck and can’t go back, you can simply close the YouTube app and reopen it. This refreshes the app and brings you back to the home screen. To do this:

- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen (or double-press the home button on older iPhones)
- Find the YouTube app in the app switcher
- Swipe up to close it
- Reopen the app from your home screen
